Getting started - Who can
Praticipate in MAHAL 2000
The criteria for becoming non-Israeli volunteers are listed below:
Citizenship

Jewish youth who neither they nor their parents are Israeli citizens (they have never been Israeli citizens and do not live in Israel permanently). |
Judaism
|
|
A non-Jewish person who answers the requirements of The Law of Return – will be approved for the MAHAL track provided he presents a letter from the Interior Ministry, stating that he is an ”Aliyah Potential” and confirming his eligibility for Israeli citizenship under the Law of Return (and has no Israeli citizenship now). |
Age at draft
|
|
Men: 18-24. |
|
|
Women: 18-21. |
|
|
Drafting up to a month younger than 18 is possible. |
|
|
Drafting certified medical doctors with the proper recommendations only, is up to the age of 35 . |
Staying in Israel
|
|
Consecutive stay in Israel before joining the MAHAL track – in a recognized learning program (such as a university course or a yeshiva etc.): up to 18 months. In an unrecognized learning program: up to 12 months. |

|
In case of a longer stay in Israel and enlisting without receiving citizenship, the length of the service will be determined based on the age at the time of arriving in Israel. |

|
The MAHAL 2000 program is considered part of the 12 consecutive months count until the date of going into service. |
|
|
A non-consecutive stay in Israel allows you to serve in the MAHAL track. |
|
|
A volunteer who already has a recruitment date should apply to the Ministry of Defense and ask for a postponement of his recruitment. |
|
|
A condition of the recruitment is a letter from the Interior Ministry stating they see no reason to prevent the recruitment. |
